Passengers land in Spanish sunshine – but had no idea where they were going
Scandinavian Airlines launches mystery flights where passengers only discover the destination after landing

The mystery flight, open only to members of the airline’s EuroBonus loyalty scheme, departed from Copenhagen Airport between Thursday April 4 and Sunday April 7. Seats were available to book with points only and sold out in just four minutes when they were released in February.
This time, passengers landed in the historic southern city of Seville – but they only found that out when the plane touched down on Spanish soil. Even the cabin crew were kept in the dark, with only the pilots aware of the destination in advance. Inside the terminal, departure boards simply displayed ‘Mystery flight’ or ‘Unknown Schengen’.

Once in Seville, travellers were treated to a organised programme of Andalusian highlights – from historical walking tours through cobbled streets to flamenco-themed events and regional culinary experiences. It was all designed to help passengers dive into the culture of one of Spain’s most charming and sun-soaked cities, without any of the usual pre-trip planning.
The concept follows a similar SAS mystery flight to Athens last year, which also generated a buzz among frequent flyers. The airline says the format is designed to make travel feel more exclusive and spontaneous – and judging by the response online, it’s working. “You buy a ticket and board the plane. Then you find out where you are going,” wrote one traveller on X, posting a photo of the ‘Unknown Schengen’ flight board. Replies ranged from “Great concept” to “100% yes”.
Because the trips stay within the Schengen Zone – a 29-country free-travel area across Europe – there are no visa complications, and passengers can enjoy a smooth arrival wherever they land.
SAS hasn’t confirmed future dates for more ‘Destination Unknown’ flights, but EuroBonus members are being encouraged to stay tuned for updates.
The only question is – would you be up for the adventure?
